Classification Society

“Classification society” means an independent organization whose purpose is to supervise the construction, ongoing maintenance and any modifications of an offshore platform in accordance with the society’s rules for classing offshore platforms and includes the American Bureau of Shipping, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, Det norske Veritas Classification A/S and Bureau Veritas (société de classification).
