Non-Conformance

An item that is not in accordance with specified codes, standards or other requirements.

  • NOTE: A non-conformance does not necessarily mean that the item is defective or that the item is not suitable for continued service.

Non-Conformance

An unacceptable deviation or a failure against internally or externally defined specifications or requirements related to a product, service or process.

Specifications or requirements may be defined internally through the management systems, standards and other requirements of the company; or externally, typically by regulatory bodies, customers or other stakeholders.

A non-conformance normally results in the need for corrective action.
